2012 Beale Street Music Festival In Memphis!

Very very pronto, LasGringas are packing up and heading back to where all the magia began…Memphis, TN! Claro, we are primarily headed back to the city of blues, BBQ and Elvis because our main man, Pitbull will be performing at the one and only Beale Street Music Festival (and trust us, we have already properly freaked out about it, but we’ve calmed down now…un poco). Amidst our excitement about Mr. 305 in the 901, we do want to pause to appreciate the rest of the awesome line-up!

Jennifer Lopez Shows the World What’s Up…In Video for New Single “Dance Again” feat. Pitbull.

I wrote a post about the new single from Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull last week when they released it, and I made the observation that this song basically amounts to JLo’s cougar anthem (I correctly assumed that the not-so-subtle lyrics were referring to the well-toned Casper Smart.) Now that I’ve seen the video for “Dance Again“, I really think it takes that anthem even further by sending a visually articulated screw you to all of JLo’s detractors.

Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull follow up “On The Floor” with a Sequel, “Dance Again”.

Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull dominated the dance/club scene with their last hit “On The Floor“, and they’re back for more with another collaboration titled “Dance Again“.  All in all, I think this song gives us two things: JLo’s personal cougar anthem (I’m in full support. I mean really, get it girl.) and más brilliant rhymes from Pitbull.

Pitbull Goes “Back In Time” With Theme Song from Men In Black 3

This week, “Back in Time”, Pitbull‘s theme song for the third installment of the Men In Black movie franchise was released to mixed reviews. It’s no secret that Las Gringas love this guy, but we were both rather surprised to hear that Mr. 305 was replacing Will Smith as the musical rep for the movie. Apparently, we aren’t the only ones surprised by the switch…which has resulting in responses like “We miss Will” all over the YouTube comments section.

It seems like there are a lot of award shows out there these days, but Las Gringas don’t really mind. It’s a great excuse to see some of your favorite artists perform, right? The next award show coming up just around the corner is the 2012 Latin Billboard Music Awards, and the complete list of nominees has just been announced! The various categories recognize both the artists and the labels, and the 2012 nominations are dominated by Don Omar (16 noms), Pitbull (14 noms), Prince Royce (12 noms), Maná (11 noms), Shakira and Romeo Santos (10 noms each) all claiming multiple nominations across multiple categories! We’re happy (and not too surprised) to see some of our absolute favorites leading the pack this year! There are a whopping 60 categories available, and you can check out the complete list below.

Mr. 305 Heads to the 901

For those who don’t know, 901 = Memphis, Tennessee which is where Las Gringas met and where our love for the Latino culture began. While Memphis is known for it’s amazing mix of musical influences and endless options for live shows, we have about 2 local salsa bands, a few mariachi groups, and the occasional appearance by Tejano/Ranchero artists. I heard once that Don Omar performed at a local Latin night club and a so-so Bachata group performed at our fairgrounds…but NADA this big has come to the Latin music scene in Memphis….EVER.
